The reason may be that impregnation agents and moisture protection agents such as creosote or chlorophenols have been used. Creosote is a tar product which, among other things, contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) which give off a tar-like smell. Several PAHs are carcinogenic. Chlorophenols can form chloranisoles having a pungent musty odor. Irritating or harmful substances can also be formed when moisture comes in contact with glues, softeners in plastic carpets, linoleum carpets, etc. Tobacco smoke that penetrates from a smoking neighbor via leaks in the building can also be perceived as disturbing.

Chemicals have to be manufactured and stored, transported and stored again, to later be used in a building. Furthermore, when the building is eventually demolished, there is a risk that the chemicals leach out of contaminated materials and end up in the ground water. All these steps involve risks to man and the environment and can be avoided by using cTrap.

cTrap cloth allows moisture to pass through but should not be trapped in moisture. If you install cTrap on a moisture-releasing concrete floor you must first lay a suitable moisture barrier (for example a 0.2mm polythene cloth or another suitable barrier). Then you lay the cTrap and finally a surface finish of your choice.
